Environmental officials required at least 25% of the new rowing dock for the City of Lake Stevens, WA to have a surface which allowed light penetration. Using custom sized 3’ x 8’ Float Sections on both outside edges, as well as a 2’ wide center grate section, AccuDock® was able to supply the City with a 90’ Rowing Dock. AccuDock® and the City worked together and met all grating and lighting requirements, while still providing the 5” of freeboard critical to a rowing dock application. Photos below are taken in our warehouse prior to shipment on the left, and the 25% open grating section being installed on the right.
Often times, the DERM (Department of Environmental Resources Management) will require a floating dock to allow light penetration to not stunt the growth of sea grass in a given area. We have also seen similar requirements in clamming areas, or places where the Fish and Wildlife Services have dock conditions to be met. Let us know about the light penetration regulations in your area, so we can provide a workable solution that meets all requirements.
